Reduce power consumption and load on compact devices

ROHM has developed four new 600V IGBT IPM, BM6437x series of devices that are mainly used in small industrial equipment, including small capacity motors for robots, as well as household appliances, air conditioners and washing machines. With first-class low noise characteristics and low loss, for inverter power conversion.

As the Internet of Things increases and power consumption increases as these devices automate, power consumption needs to be reduced when examining power utilization and limited global resources. This requires a more efficient IGBT (one of the semiconductors responsible for power conversion) and an accompanying module to further reduce power consumption.

Compared to traditional IPM products, the latest low-loss IGBT reduces power consumption by 6% (FC =15kHz), providing first-class low loss and reduced power consumption for a wide range of devices. The company has developed these four models of IGBT IPM series to achieve first-class characteristics by simultaneously reducing radiated noise and power losses. Optimizing the characteristics of the built-in IGBT and the soft recovery characteristics of the internal FRD reduces the radiated noise of the series by more than 6dB(peak comparison) compared to the standard product, allowing it to consider simplifying the noise filters normally required. In addition, the built-in temperature monitoring function is greatly improved, with an accuracy of ±2%(equivalent to 2C). This makes it possible to consider removing the external thermistors required for existing high-precision temperature monitors, thereby reducing the number of external components and design loads.

In addition, new features for identifying products after installation have been included to help stop installation errors. Misidentification patterns are also included. The integrated feature can distinguish fault states by "short-circuit protection", "under-voltage protection" or "thermal shutdown protection".
