ROHM has developed a battery charger, IC-BD71631QWZ - designed to provide low-voltage charging for wearable devices such as wireless headphones and thin and compact iot devices such as smart displays powered by rechargeable batteries.

In recent years, demand for safer, denser rechargeable batteries has been directed towards new types of batteries. This includes all-solid/semi-solid types of models, electrode sections using novel materials, and batteries with different terminal compositions. However, many of the latest rechargeable batteries are small and thin, requiring low voltage charging in the 2V to 3V range. In addition, there is currently no battery charger INTEGRATED circuit capable of handling a wide voltage range.

Therefore, the company has developed low voltage rechargeable battery IC not only for lithium-ion battery, but also for all-solid and semi-solid rechargeable batteries. By improving the stability of the internal circuit, low voltage charging can be carried out in the range of 2V ~ 4.7V.

Unlike ordinary battery charger integrated circuits, which provide a fixed voltage, the new device can easily set the charging voltage by changing the external resistance, reducing the design load when changing the battery. In addition, the original packaging technology resulted in compact packaging that was only 0.4 mm thick, 60% less than conventional products on the market. This helps make the device smaller and thinner. In addition, CCCV charging can set charging/termination current and other charging characteristics, providing the best charging environment for thin, compact iot and wearable devices using the latest rechargeable batteries.
